Bridal Session in the Arizona Desert

There’s something about the Arizona desert that holds its own type of romance. The southwest mesas are one of the best places for any desert adventure with your partner whether that’s an engagement, anniversary, vowel renewal, elopement, or just for fun shoot. The warm light and glow that shines through the cactus and canyons at sunset is unparalleled in its unique beauty. It’s observations like those that make this a quietly wonderful place for a desert elopement.

This wasn’t quite that this time, although close. MyKayla & Jonas are friends of mine who I’ve had the pleasure of photographing a few times now. They recently celebrated getting married with a two-part wedding (how awesome is that?!) in each of their hometowns, Gilbert, Arizona and Salt Lake City, Utah. MyKayla is a world class gymnast who is training for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Check out her journey on YouTube.

Since their Arizona reception took place in more of an urban environment, we wanted to do a bridal session in the desert where they could not only have photos showcasing the beauty of nature, but share another intimate experience with each other which was much more relaxed compared to the high pace, high energy event that big traditional weddings often are.

We hiked around a region of Lost Dutchman State Park near the Superstition Mountains and enjoyed a relaxed sunset session in their wedding day attire. MyKayla had such an amazing wedding dress that flowed through the sandy desert floor so freely. I was so happy to see these two again, now as a married couple. The first time I had the privilege of photographing them was in Utah last winter, before they were engaged even. While we waited to do bridal photos in the best sunset light, we shot a more casual look. Take a look at those photos here!

The desert has grown to be a very special place for me, and I look forward to returning to Arizona every time. Congrats again MyKayla & Jonas!

Hey, I’m Warren and this is my why behind everything I do!

I believe this is where it all starts and is at the heart of everything, so let me tell you. I have a soft spot for sentimentality and I think love is awesome. I’m so grateful that I discovered photography early in life because I’ve been able to document my own journey in a creative fashion. For that reason, I have a strong passion for giving that same experience to others and take great pride in getting the responsibility of documenting their stories. Each picture has a story or feeling behind it and I love to capture that novelty. Arresting those moments in time allows us to remember and feel more intensely. I know how much I value that and enjoy passing that along to others through photography. I would love to be a part of telling your story.
