An Arizona Sunset Couples Session
Arizona is such a fantastic place in the life of an elopement photographer. The opportunities for adventure sessions and engagement photos are endless. Warm sunshine, fresh waters, rock canyons, and vast landscapes of cactus make up the most beautiful desert environment. From Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon, and Horseshoe Bend in Northern Arizona to Saguaro National Park and the Superstition Mountains in the south, this state is truly one of the most unique places in the world. I’ve made it an annual tradition to visit the Scottsdale area a few times a year and always end up discovering new places and experience new enthusiasm for the deserts, mountains, and canyons that Arizona has to offer.
This recent trip I was lucky enough to reconnect with a past couple of mine. I first photographed MyKayla & Jonas in Utah last winter. Check out those photos here. Fast forward to this session and a lot has changed. They’re now married and have temporarily moved back to MyKayla’s hometown of Gilbert as she trains for the 2020 summer Olympics in Tokyo. For those who don’t know, MyKayla Skinner is a world class gymnast with an impressive list of accomplishments, of which I have no doubt there will be many more to come. She’s currently vlogging and documenting her road to this year’s Olympics in Tokyo so check out her channel for more behind the scenes.
We decided to meet up and explore areas around the Superstition Mountains. That led us to Lost Dutchman State Park where we hiked around the paths below the mountain canyon and took some casual photos as we waited for sunset. Our main focus on this day was to photograph more bridal portraits for these two. Check out those photos here. We had the best time and couldn’t help but laugh about the difference between our first session, freezing our butts off in 20-degree winter Utah weather, and comfortable Arizona winter which is still quite warm for us Washington and Utah natives.
Thanks again MyKayla & Jonas for another good session in the books!
Hey, I’m Warren and this is my why behind everything I do!
I believe this is where it all starts and is at the heart of everything, so let me tell you. I have a soft spot for sentimentality and I think love is awesome. I’m so grateful that I discovered photography early in life because I’ve been able to document my own journey in a creative fashion. For that reason, I have a strong passion for giving that same experience to others and take great pride in getting the responsibility of documenting their stories. Each picture has a story or feeling behind it and I love to capture that novelty. Arresting those moments in time allows us to remember and feel more intensely. I know how much I value that and enjoy passing that along to others through photography. I would love to be a part of telling your story.
