Oahu, Hawaii Couples Session
Hawaii has so many opportunities for adventure and exploration. While we were planning Kylie and Chase’s Hawaii elopement on the island of Oahu, we knew we wanted to build in as much time as possible for all the fun ideas we had been tossing around together.
A Day After Elopement Session
Particularly if you choose to travel and have a destination elopement, creating extra time and investing in photography is such a special way to document and add more intimacy to your experience. Whether you choose to do the day before or day after your elopement, bridal or casual attire, this is an excellent opportunity not only to take advantage of extra time to get photos in more locations, but also to soak up and reflect on the emotions of your marriage experience together.
Kylie and Chase were both really stoked on the idea of doing a day after session following their elopement (see those photos here). We discussed using this time to do another bridal session so they could have even more epic photos in their wedding attire. After further thought however we decided it was best to just do a casual couples session. While we didn’t end up getting out there until late morning when the day came, we had originally planned for this to be more of an early morning sunrise session. Seeing as their elopement was the day before, we decided to skip the early morning wakeup call that would be necessary to prep extra hair and make up for the bridal look all over again. I spent a few days on Oahu with them for their elopement trip, so we also wanted to get diversity in the overall photographic documentary of the trip which meant including a casual couples session.
In my research and online location scouting for possible elopement ceremony locations, I came across Kahana Bay. I was immediately inspired by this area for so many reasons. One of those that I loved the most was how the big sweeping sandy beach was met by mountains on both sides. I wanted to photograph the gorgeous Hawaiian mountains and this location really showed off the impressive peaks. Additionally, the beach was lined with lush forest, huge wild vegetation, and an abundant supply of wild chickens and fallen coconuts. When I presented the spot, Kylie and Chase were both really stoked on this location as well. We actually considered having their elopement ceremony here. One of the only reasons we didn’t is because this location is on the east side of the island and they wanted to have a true nautical sunset during their elopement which this place wouldn’t provide. Best of both worlds getting to visit multiple areas though right? That’s the beauty of a multi-day elopement.
We were able to feast our eyes driving through a mountain pass on our way to Kahana from Honolulu. We even caught some views of the famous Kualoa Ranch (where Jurassic Park and Lost were filmed). With to good to be true crystal blue water on out one window, and jaw dropping mountains out the other, it was hard to know where to look as we drove up the east side of Oahu.
We had an incredible laid back session at Kahana. If only every session could be barefoot with warm pacific water up to your shins. I also really wanted to take the quick hike up Crouching Lion to get another unique viewpoint, but we had plans to snorkel that afternoon and since we arrived late, we didn’t have time. You know what they say though, always leave a path untaken so that you have a reason to go back. I will most certainly be doing that as there’s still so much of Hawaii I have yet to see.
“Warren, these are amazing!!! Thank you so so much brother. You are so talented at what you do and I’m so grateful you were there with us to capture these moments.”
- Chase
Hey, I’m Warren and this is my why behind everything I do!
I believe this is where it all starts and is at the heart of everything, so let me tell you. I have a soft spot for sentimentality and I think love is awesome. I’m so grateful that I discovered photography early in life because I’ve been able to document my own journey in a creative fashion. For that reason, I have a strong passion for giving that same experience to others and take great pride in getting the responsibility of documenting their stories. Each picture has a story or feeling behind it and I love to capture that novelty. Arresting those moments in time allows us to remember and feel more intensely. I know how much I value that and enjoy passing that along to others through photography. I would love to be a part of telling your story.
